Purpose

Provides design team leadership in the development of new product design, from initial research through the maintenance of approved designs.

Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Controls performance by checking work in process and instituting corrective actions.
    2. Organizes immediate activities by assigning work to individuals and establishing schedules.
    3. Leads by instructing existing employees in methods or procedures, answering questions, training new employees, participating in and/or effectively recommending personnel actions (i.e., selection, discipline, etc.).
    4. Provides leadership to the design team. Leadership is demonstrated through, but not limited to, decision making, developing personnel, and communicating and motivating staff.
    5. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends approval or change to requested product design revisions.
    6. Communicates information concerning design changes to both supplier and Jayco manufactured components, as needed. Ensures proper documentation is provided in the BOM and other engineering documentation.
    7. Monitors new product design from conception through the successful release to operations. Responsible for accuracy and completeness of all documents released and associated with assigned models.
    8. Attends dealer meetings, seminars, industry shows, etc. as needed.
    9. Trains new employees and instructs existing employees in methods or procedures.
    10. Assists Director, Product Engineering by providing leadership to the design item. Leadership is demonstrated through, but not limited to, decision making, developing personnel, and communicating and motivating staff.
    11. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires 8 to 10 years related experience and knowledge equivalent to high school plus additional broad, specialized training equal to 2 years college. Incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of RV construction techniques, engineering standards, industry codes and standards, etc.  Must be able to think creatively in terms of product improvement, cost reduction, etc.  Interfaces extensively within the company and with industry personnel.  Requires strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Requires 7 to 10 years related experience and knowledge equivalent to high school plus additional broad, specialized training equal to 2 years college.
