Our dedicated production team includes Amish craftsmen who build with well-honed woodworking skills passed down for generations. We make sure we take the extra steps to build high quality products that are durable and use the most advanced construction techniques.

 

WE START WITH ONE OF THE INDUSTRY'S STRONGEST FOUNDATIONS

Jayco builds on custom-sized frames, designed specifically for each floorplan. Other manufacturers use stock frames, stretching and welding the frame to fit.

Full-width outriggers
  • We build on full-width outriggers that are 4-6 feet apart (vs. 8 feet) to better support the weight of the wall.
I-Class cambered structural-steel I-beams
  • Jayco uses a unique molded, one-piece design to prevent the unit from twisting; competing three-piece I-beams can warp over time at the welded seams.
Fifth wheel frame
  • The frame over the truck bed is built on a superior 2" x 6" tube perimeter structure to better support the bedroom sidewalls. Some fifth wheels have a smaller frame; these manufacturers may add a sidewall support seam to compensate for expansion joints.

Front Area Construction
  • In the upper area of the fifth wheel floorplan, Jayco uses a double layer of fiberglass insulation behind the front cap, along with Flexfoil and fiberglass insulation in the floor, to provide extra warmth where it’s needed most — in the bedroom.
  • Jayco’s aerodynamic front cap is engineered to withstand the rigors of the road. This gel-coated fiberglass cap features more support with 1/4" plywood bracing, not typically found on other fifth wheels.
Magnum Truss Roof System
  • Jayco uses 5" crowned wood trusses, solid-wood studs and oversized nail plates to maximize the roof's load capacity.
  • Then, we screw down 3/8" roof decking at every seam, a process that is more durable than stapled construction.
  • Finally, our one-piece, sidewall-wrapped DiFlex II material provides the ultimate in leak protection.
Wall Construction
  • Using 144 tons of pressure for 16-18 minutes, Seismic Wave features durable, vacuum-bonded walls, while smooth, high-gloss fiberglass exteriors provide long-lasting appeal.
  • Welded aluminum framing gives our toy haulers a durable, lightweight structure.
Garage Construction
  • Seismic Wave is among only a few toy haulers in the industry with a 2" block foam-insulated, vacuum-bonded garage floor, delivering added durability for your heavy toys.

  • D-rings, rated for 2,500 lbs., are mounted through the vacuum-bonded floor and bolted to a steel plate attached to the frame. Some manufacturers don’t add this extra reinforcement.

Screwed Construction

We screw down 3/8" roof decking at each seam, which creates a more firmly secured structure and reduces the chance of fasteners coming loose and puncturing the rubber roof material.

Stapled Construction

Competitors staple their decking, which is not as strong or as reliable as screwed construction.

Oversized Nail Plates

Jayco uses oversized nail plate joint fasteners on both sides of the trusses, making for a much tighter truss with less chance of movement.

Smaller Nail Plates

Competitors use smaller nail plates, and in most areas, only use them on one side of the truss, increasing the likelihood the roof will flex.

2 x 2 Vertical Wood Studs

The Magnum Roof System uses 2 x 2 vertical studs, strategically placed to maximize load capacity. Nail plates also are used on both sides of the vertical stud to further enhance strength.

1" Aluminum Piece

Competitors use a 1" piece of aluminum as their vertical support, which provides less strength in important areas.

Safer Wiring

The 2 x 2 vertical studs provide smoother edges along which to run wiring, greatly reducing the risk of electrical shorts.

Less Safe Wiring

With the 1" aluminum piece and its sharp edges, our competitors' roofs are more likely to have electrical shorts.

7" Header Beam

Between the roof and slideout openings, we use 7" header beams, a more acceptable material used in home construction for load-bearing beams.

2 x 6 Lumber

Competitors use a 2 x 6 piece of lumber, which creates a weaker 5 1/2" beam.

4,500 lbs. on a Jayco Roof

The Magnum Truss Roof System withstood 4,500 lbs., showing that Jayco's exclusive roof construction can hold a 50 percent heavier load than the competition. This strength translates into durability and is a result of superior quality construction.

Jayco took five of its toughest towables to Dometic, the nation's premier climate control facility, where independent technicians put the Jayco Climate Shield to the test against extreme temperatures.

Independent Heat Testing

Independent Heat Testing
Each unit was subjected to 100° F heat for an 8-hour period. During that time, sensors were placed throughout the coach to measure the unit’s average temperature. The result—the Jayco Climate Shield maintained a comfortable temperature of 71° F.

Independent Cold Testing

Independent Cold Testing
Each unit was then subjected to 0° F temperatures for an 8-hour period. Temperatures dropped so low the tires frosted over, yet inside the coach, plumbing remained fully functional. When the test was complete, the same temperature sensors found that the Jayco Climate Shield maintained a cozy temperature of 68° F.

Following cold testing, technicians emptied the holding tanks to check for any final freezing. Thanks to a fully enclosed underbelly with forced air and radiant heat, the Jayco Climate Shield held up to temperatures as low as 0° F (-17°C).

*Unit was tested in 0 degrees F and 100 degrees F weather over an extended period of time in a controlled environment and all functions of the coach were fully operational. Testing was done in a completely controlled environment, therefore temperatures during testing may not represent actual temperatures in nature and cannot account for elements such as wind or moisture. In actual use, unit may not perform as well. Supplier of cooling components does not guarantee anything better than 20 degrees difference from ambient temperature. In addition, outside components are subject to freezing and require steps to properly insulate. Jayco’s warranty does not cover damage caused by freezing.
