5 Questions to Ask Anyone at an RV show

When it comes to RVing, there’s no better place to get your feet wet than at an RV show. You’ll quickly find that the camaraderie among RVers is one of the most endearing aspects of the community. Conversations with fellow show-goers happen easily and organically, making these events great opportunities to pick up pointers for making the most of the RV lifestyle.

Don’t hold back when it comes to striking up a conversation with this notoriously friendly crowd. Start with these 5 questions and you’re sure to hear a colorful story or two, learn something new and have a darn good time while you’re at it.

1. How did you start RVing?

This question is sure to lead to fun and interesting backstories. Not only that, but this ice-breaker is a great way to get some inspiration for all the different ways you can use an RV. It’s interesting to hear the different ways people have fallen in love with RVing—whether it was just a matter of time, finding the perfect camping companions or discovering the perfect type of campground. No matter your experience level, you’ll likely be able to relate.

2. Where do you recommend I go while I’m here?

From educational seminars to the latest and greatest technology to tasty food, there’s a lot to explore at an RV show. Get your fellow show-goers’ opinions on what to put on your to-visit list for the day. If your conversation partner is a newbie as well, you can swap recommendations on the displays you’ve visited so far, or partner up and head to a display together!

3. What should I consider when choosing my next RV?

To say today’s RVers enjoy a lot of choices, in terms of RV form and function, is an understatement. With so many options out there, asking a dealer or RV vet what he or she likes about their rig allows you to hone in on what ultimately might be important to you. RVers who have been on the road for a while can open newcomers’ eyes to things they may not have considered before, like must-have extras or how a specific feature fits your preferred style of travel.

4. What RV camps and travel destinations would you recommend?

There’s no shortage of beautifully appointed campgrounds and off-the-beaten-path spots ideal for RVs. Since most shows have a regional flavor, attendees and dealers alike will have a good idea of where to find the best sites and deals in a relatively short drive. RVers with a lot of miles under their belts have undoubtedly taken advantage of the flexibility of the lifestyle too. They’ll be able to introduce you to some fun attractions and places to visit.

5. What’s one piece of advice you have for fellow RVers?

Almost every experienced RVer knows something now they wish they did when they started. You’ll likely hear a range of answers to this question, but take note of what you hear and you’re sure to learn something valuable. Regardless of how they answer, whether it’s a tip for breaking in a new rig, navigating winding roads, dry camping preparation or how they learned the features they can’t live without, any type of veteran advice can be downright priceless.

At the end of the day, RV shows aren’t just a great place to learn more about RVs and the lifestyle, they’re also a fantastic way to meet some wonderful folks. RVers have a wealth of experience, and there’s no reason to hold back when it comes to asking them to share their knowledge.
