The RV Industry: 1972 vs 2012

1972 Jayco Jayraven & 2012 White Hawk

Over the years, the Recreational Vehicle industry has evolved and improved immensely. Today’s RV owner will have more value for the dollars spent than the RV owner of the 1970s.

The improvements made in the quality of components, sealants and materials have been dramatic. And it only takes one look at today’s products to appreciate the progress made with styling. Today’s RVs are sleeker, more eye appealing, lighter weight and packed with the latest technologies. All for a lower cost comparatively.

In addition, RVs today are more reliable, durable and have a longer life than their predecessors. The products we use today, such as refrigerators, ovens, air conditioners, furnaces, hot water heaters, electronics, and etcetera, all use the latest materials and technologies that provide the end user with highly efficient, extremely durable, minimal maintenance goods with a lower cost of operation.

The materials used in today’s RVs have seen great advances as well. Sealants are more reliable and environmentally friendly, using the best available. The materials we use in our units today are stronger but at the same time lighter weight which lends itself to durability and ease of towing.

In general, the progress that has occurred in the technology world has helped improve the RVs of today versus the RVs of 1970. Today, you’ll find RVs with backup cameras, satellite TV, iPad and iPod hookups, GPS systems, security systems, large flat screen TVs, tankless hot water heaters, electric awnings, automatic leveling systems and many more of the common technologies. You’ll have a hard time finding a 1970s RV with comparable features.

Overall, today’s RV has a higher value with a lower cost of operation and less maintenance, giving the RVer more for their money, more ease of use and more time to enjoy the lifestyle
