#1 Scavenger Hunt

Create a list of items you already know you and your family can find and begin the hunt! Here are some great idea starters.

• Pine Cone
• Leaf with one point and one with 3 or more
• Acorn or Walnut
• Spot three types of birds
• Water source (creek, pond, lake, stream)
• The largest tree branch of all time!

#2 Create Homemade Ice Cream

Ice cream is easier to make than you think. With just sugar, milk, and vanilla (or any flavor you want) you can beat boredom and make a delicious snack.

• First, mix one tablespoon of sugar, one cup of milk, and half a teaspoon of vanilla in a bowl. This will make about one scoop.
• Transfer the contents to a quart-size bag and seal.
• Then fill a gallon-size bag with two quarts of crushed ice and 6 tablespoons of rock salt (or coarse salt). The rock salt will keep the ice from melting.
• Make sure both bags are completely sealed. Place the quart-size bag inside the gallon-size bag. Shake for about 10-15 minutes, making sure the contents of the two bags do not mix. The bags will get very cold, so use gloves or a towel to hold them.

#3 Take a Walk on a Starry Night

There is something so magical about the calm stillness of the night. Everything settles down, the sky comes to life with glittering lights, and the quietness offers the perfect time for reflection or meaningful discussions. With older kids, use an app or a book to find constellations together. Considering bringing along:

• A Flashlight or two
• A blanket to lie down and stargaze
• A DIY Telescope (a fun project in itself) Try these easy steps.

#4 Indoor DIY Bowling

Do you need a quick activity to play inside the camper? Grab some empty water bottles and a rubber ball to transform your hallway or living area into a bowling alley! Six bottles should suffice for bowling pins; if the bottles fall over too easily, fill them up with a little water or dry pasta, rice, or beans for some extra weight.

#5 Masking Tape Gymnastics

Did you know a simple roll of masking tape could provide hours of indoor exercise? Using masking tape (or painter’s tape) make a hopscotch pattern or mock balance beam on the living room floor. If you’re a competitive family, color pieces of tape with markers and use them to “design” team shirts.

All of these activities can be done at little to no cost and are sure to bring lots of laughter and joy to your family. Save this list where you can easily find it for your next adventure. Safe travels and happy camping from the Jayco family!
