One of the questions we hear most often is, "How do five people live in an RV?" Honestly? It all came down to choosing the right floor plan. When we began our full-time journey five years ago, we weren't just shopping for an RV, we were choosing a home. We knew our children wouldn't stay little forever, so we wanted a space that could grow alongside them. Looking back after traveling to 49 states, I can confidently say that planning for the future was one of the best decisions we made.
Choosing a Home That Could Grow With Our Family
August 26, 2026
One of the things we love most about our Jayco is that everyone has a place to call their own. Our kids each have their own bed and their own personal space. It may not be a large bedroom, but it's theirs. Over the years they have made those spaces their own with photos, favorite blankets, artwork, little decorations, books and treasures they have collecd on our travels. As they have grown, so have their interests. The bins that once held toys now hold hockey gear, craft supplies, chapter books and keepsakes from adventures across the country. Watching their spaces evolve has been one of the sweetest parts of this journey.
Just as important, our North Point gives us space as parents. After a full day of hiking, homeschooling, exploring new towns, or driving to our next destination, it is nice to have a place where we can sit together, enjoy a cup of coffee, watch a movie, or simply talk after the kids are asleep. Those quiet moments matter just as much as the big adventures.
Living in an RV does not mean sacrificing comfort. It simply means being intentional with the space you have. Every cabinet, closet and storage compartment has a purpose, and over the years we have learned how to make our home work beautifully for our family.
If you are searching for your first RV, my biggest piece of advice is to think beyond today. Picture where your family will be a few years from now. Will your kids be taller? Will they have new hobbies? Will you need more storage, seating, or privacy? It is easy to shop for the season you are in, but choosing an RV that can grow with your family is what turns it into a long-term home.
Five years later, our kids have changed, our routines have changed and we have certainly changed. One thing hasn't: every time we pull into a new destination, we are reminded that choosing a Jayco built for our future gave us the freedom to experience the adventures of a lifetime without ever feeling like we left home behind.
